Tobias and His Friend Travel to Rages

Potom momak siđe u rijeku da se okupa, kad najednom skoči iz vode velika riba i htjede ga proždrijeti.
3 and Tobias went down to wash his feet. Suddenly a big fish jumped out of the water and tried to swallow one of his feet. Tobias let out a scream, Anđeo mu reče: "Uhvati ribu." Nato se momak dočepa ribe te je izvuče na suho.
4 but the angel said, “Quick—grab the fish!” So Tobias grabbed it and dragged it up on the river bank. Onda mu anđeo kaza: "Raspori ribu, izvadi joj srce, jetru i žuč i dobro ih čuvaj jer su koristan lijek."
5 The angel said, “Cut it open and take out its heart, liver, and gall bladder, because these can be used for medicine. But throw the rest of its insides away.”
Momak izvrši što mu je anđeo naredio. I pošto su ribu ispekli, pojedoše je,
6 Tobias obeyed the angel. Then he cooked and ate some of the fish and salted the rest to keep it from spoiling. And the next morning, the two of them again set out on their journey.
When they were getting near Media,

7 Tobias asked the angel, “Azariah, how can these parts from that fish be used as medicine?”

8 The angel said, “If a demon is causing sickness or trouble for a man or a woman, take the heart and liver and burn them nearby. The smoke will stop the demon from bothering that person ever again.
A on odgovori: "Srce i jetra služe kad koga muči demon ili zao duh: treba to pred takvim, bio muškarac ili žena, spaliti, i nikad ga zao duh više neće mučiti.
9 And if someone has white spots covering their eyes and cannot see, you can rub the gall bladder on their eyes and blow on the white spots, and that person will be able to see again.” A žuč se uzima da se njome premažu oči na kojima su bijele mrlje, tako te bolesnik ozdravi."
Raphael's Instructions to Tobias
10 Tobias and Raphael had reached Media and were on their way to Ecbatana,
10 Kad bijahu blizu Ekbatane,
11 when Raphael said, “Tobias, listen to me.”
“I'm listening,” Tobias answered.
Then Raphael said:
Tonight we will stay in the home of your relative Raguel. He has a daughter named Sarah,
11 anđeo reče mladiću: "Brate, noćas ćemo prenoćiti kod Raguela; on ti je rođak, a ima jedinicu kćer koja se zove Sara.
12 and she is his only child. You are her closest relative, and so you have the right to marry her and to inherit whatever her father leaves. He is a good man, and she is sensible, courageous, and very beautiful. 12 Ja ću gledati da ti je dadu za ženu, jer tebi pripada njezino nasljedstvo: jedini si od njezina roda, djevojka je lijepa i razborita.
13 Now listen carefully. Raguel knows that you have the right to marry his daughter and that the Law of Moses teaches that he must be put to death, if he lets any other man marry her. So tonight I will make the wedding arrangements with him, and you can take Sarah home as your bride when we return from Rages. 13 Sad me poslušaj: govorit ću njenu ocu, i kad se vratimo iz Ragesa, proslavit ćemo svadbu. Jer ja znam da je Raguel, prema Mojsijevu zakonu, ne može dati drugome, a kad bi to uradio, zaslužio bi smrt, jer ti imaš pravo na nasljedstvo pred svakim drugim."
14 Tobias answered:
I have heard that she has already been married seven times, but each of the men died before going to bed with her. The rumor is that a demon killed them.
14 Onda mladić kaza anđelu: "Brate Azarja, čuo sam da je djevojka već bila dana sedmorici ljudi i da su svi nađeni mrtvi u svadbenoj sobi:
15 It doesn't harm her; it just kills anyone who tries to marry her. I am an only child, and if I were killed by that demon, my parents would have great sorrow and be left with no one to bury them.
h 6.15 no one to bury them: A proper burial was considered very important.
15 jedinac sam u oca; bojim se da ću, odem li k njoj, umrijeti kao i oni prije mene; jer nju ljubi neki demon koji ne čini zla drugima, osim onima koji joj se približe. Bojim se da ne umrem i da za sobom, zbog žalosti, ne povučem u grob svoga oca i svoju majku, a nemaju drugoga sina da ih sahrani."
16 Raphael then said:
Don't you remember that your father told you to marry someone from his side of the family? So agree to marry Sarah, because I know that tonight she can be your bride. You don't have to worry about the demon if you pay close attention to my instructions.
16 Anđeo mu reče: "Ne sjećaš se kako ti je otac naredio da uzmeš za ženu samo onu koja pripada tvome rodu? Zato me poslušaj, brate: ona će biti tvoja žena, a ti se ne osvrći na demona, jer će još noćas biti tvoja.
17 Before you enter the bedroom with Sarah, put some of the liver and heart of the fish on the burning incense. It will give off such a bad odor 17 Kad budeš ušao u svadbenu sobu, uzet ćeš tamjanova pepela i metnut ćeš na nj malo ribljeg srca i jetre; kad tako okadiš, demon će oćutjeti vonj i pobjeći će i neće se više vratiti.
18 that the demon will leave and never return.
Then, before the two of you go to bed, you must stand up and pray that the Lord of Heaven will be merciful and watch over you. Don't worry! Even before the time of creation, God had already chosen Sarah to be your wife. You will save her from disgrace, and she will return to your home with you. I promise that the two of you will have sons, and you will love them very much. So don't argue with me!
As soon as Tobias learned that Sarah was related to him on his father's side of the family, he fell deeply in love with her.
18 Kad se htjedneš približiti k njoj, bdijte oboje i dozivajte milostivog Boga: on će vas spasiti i smilovati vam se. Ne boj se: ona ti je bila dosuđena oduvijek, ti ćeš je spasiti; ona će poći s tobom i mislim da ćeš s njom imati poroda."
Kad je Tobija čuo sve to, odmah mu ona omilje i njegova se duša privinu uz njezinu.
