11 »De cierto os digo que entre los que nacen de mujer no se ha levantado otro mayor que Juan el Bautista; y, sin embargo, el más pequeño en el reino de los cielos es mayor que él.

11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
|
|
12 »Desde los días de Juan el Bautista hasta ahora, el reino de los cielos sufre violencia,h y los violentos lo arrebatan.
|
12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.  suffereth...: or, is gotten by force, and they that thrust men
|
|
13 Todos los profetas y la Ley profetizaron hasta Juan.
|
13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
|
|
14 Y si queréis recibirlo, él es aquel Elías que había de venir.i
|
14 And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.
|
|
15 El que tiene oídos para oir, oiga.
|
15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
|
|
16 Pero ¿a qué compararé esta generación? Es semejante a los muchachos que se sientan en las plazas y gritan a sus compañeros,
|
16 But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows,
|
|
17 diciendo: “Os tocamos flauta y no bailasteis; os entonamos canciones de duelo y no llorasteis”,j
|
17 And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.
|
|
18 porque vino Juan, que ni comía ni bebía,k y dicen: “Demonio tiene”.
|
18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.
|
|
19 Vino el Hijo del hombre, que come y bebe, y dicen: “Este es un hombre comilón y bebedor de vino, amigo de publicanos y pecadores”. Pero la sabiduría es justificada por sus hijos».l
|
19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.

Ayes sobre las ciudades impenitentes
20 Entonces comenzó a reconvenir a las ciudades en las cuales había hecho muchos de sus milagros, porque no se habían arrepentido, diciendo:

20 Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:
|
|
21 «¡Ay de ti, Corazín! ¡Ay de ti, Betsaida!,m porque si en Tiro y en Sidón se hubieran hecho los milagros que han sido hechos en vosotras, tiempo ha que en vestidos ásperos y ceniza se habrían arrepentido.
|
21 Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

|
22 Por tanto os digo que en el día del juicio será más tolerable el castigo para Tiro y para Sidón que para vosotras.
|
22 But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.
|
|
23 Y tú, Capernaúm, que eres levantada hasta el cielo, hasta el Hades serás abatida,n porque si en Sodomañ se hubieran hecho los milagros que han sido hechos en ti, habría permanecido hasta el día de hoy.
|
23 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.
|
|
24 Por tanto os digo que en el día del juicio será más tolerable el castigo para la tierra de Sodoma que para ti».
|
24 But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.
