33 The Lord Promises To Give the Land Back to His People
1-2 I was still being held prisoner in the courtyard of the palace guards when the Lord told me:
I am the Lord, and I created the whole world.
e 33.1,2 the whole world: One ancient translation; Hebrew “it.”
33
Moreover the word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the guard, saying,

Još jedno obeæanje o obnovi Jeruzalema i Judeje
33

3 Ask me, and I will tell you things that you don't know and can't find out. Call to me, and I will answer you, and will show you great things, and difficult, which you don’t know. Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and will show thee great things, and difficult, which thou knowest not. 3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.
mighty: or, hidden
3 Clama ad me, et exaudiam te,
et annuntiabo tibi grandia et firma quæ nescis.
4-5 Many of the houses in Jerusalem and some of the buildings at the royal palace have been torn down to be used in repairing the walls to keep out the Babylonian attackers.
f 33.4,5 have been torn down ... Babylonian attackers: One possible meaning for the difficult Hebrew text.
Now there are empty spaces where the buildings once stood. But I am furious, and these spaces will be filled with the bodies of the people I kill. The people of Jerusalem will cry out to me for help, but they are evil, and I will ignore their prayers.
For thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city, and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are broken down to make a defense against the mounds and against the sword; For thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city, and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are broken down to make a defence against the mounds and against the sword; 4 For thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city, and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are thrown down by the mounts, and by the sword; e 33.4-5 Yo, el Señor... han cometido: traducción probable de un texto muy oscuro. Porque así ha dicho Jehová, Dios de Israel, acerca de las casas de esta ciudad y de las casas de los reyes de Judá, derribadas por el ariete y la espada Denn so spricht der HERR der Gott Jsrael / von den heusern dieser Stad / vnd von den heusern der Könige Juda / welche abgebrochen sind / Bolwerck zu machen zur Wehre / Ибо так говорит Господь, Бог Израилев, о домах города сего и о домах царей Иудейских, которые разрушаются для завалов и для сражения Jer ovako govori Jahve, Bog Izraelov, o kuæama ovoga grada i o dvorima kraljeva judejskih, porušenim zbog nasipa i maèa,
6 Then someday, I will heal this place and my people as well, and let them enjoy unending peace.
g 33.6 let them enjoy unending peace: One possible meaning for the difficult Hebrew text.
Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them; and I will reveal to them abundance of peace and truth. Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them; and I will reveal unto them abundance of peace and truth. 6 Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them, and will reveal unto them the abundance of peace and truth.
Evo, ja æu zalijeèiti njihovu ranu, ja æu ih iscijeliti i ozdraviti i pružiti im obilje istinskoga mira.
6 Ecce ego obducam eis cicatricem et sanitatem,
et curabo eos, et revelabo illis deprecationem pacis et veritatis.
7 I will give this land to Israel and Judah once again, and I will make them as strong as they were before. I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them, as at the first. And I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them, as at the first. 7 And I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them, as at the first. f 33.7 Una vez más, las promesas de restauración se refieren a los dos antiguos reinos, el de Judá y el de Israel. Promijenit æu udes zemlje Judine i Jeruzalema i podiæi æu ih da budu kao nekoæ.
7 Et convertam conversionem Juda et conversionem Jerusalem,
et ædificabo eos sicut a principio.
8 They sinned and rebelled against me, but I will forgive them and take away their guilt. I will cleanse them from all their iniquity, by which they have sinned against me; and I will pardon all their iniquities, by which they have sinned against me, and by which they have transgressed against me. And I will cleanse them from all their iniquity, whereby they have sinned against me; and I will pardon all their iniquities, whereby they have sinned against me, and whereby they have transgressed against me. 8 And I will cleanse them from all their iniquity, whereby they have sinned against me; and I will pardon all their iniquities, whereby they have sinned, and whereby they have transgressed against me.
in qua peccaverunt mihi,
et propitius ero cunctis iniquitatibus eorum,
in quibus dereliquerunt mihi et spreverunt me.
9 When that happens, all nations on earth will see the good things I have done for Jerusalem, and how I have given it complete peace. The nations will celebrate and praise and honor me, but they will also tremble with fear. This city shall be to me for a name of joy, for a praise and for a glory, before all the nations of the earth, which shall hear all the good that I do to them, and shall fear and tremble for all the good and for all the peace that I procure to it. And this city shall be to me for a name of joy, for a praise and for a glory, before all the nations of the earth, which shall hear all the good that I do unto them, and shall fear and tremble for all the good and for all the peace that I procure unto it. 9 And it shall be to me a name of joy, a praise and an honour before all the nations of the earth, which shall hear all the good that I do unto them: and they shall fear and tremble for all the goodness and for all the prosperity that I procure unto it.
10 Jeremiah, you say that this land is a desert without people or animals, and for now, you are right. The towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem are deserted, and people and animals are nowhere to be seen. But someday you will hear
10 Thus says Yahweh: Yet again there shall be heard in this place, about which you say, It is waste, without man and without animal, even in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, that are desolate, without man and without inhabitant and without animal, 10 Thus saith Jehovah: Yet again there shall be heard in this place, whereof ye say, It is waste, without man and without beast, even in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, that are desolate, without man and without inhabitant and without beast,
10 Thus saith the LORD; Again there shall be heard in this place, which ye say shall be desolate without man and without beast, even in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, that are desolate, without man, and without inhabitant, and without beast,
Adhuc audietur in loco isto
quem vos dicitis esse desertum,
eo quod non sit homo nec jumentum
in civitatibus Juda, et foris Jerusalem,
quæ desolatæ sunt, absque homine,
et absque habitatore, et absque pecore,
11 happy voices and the sounds of parties and wedding celebrations. And when people come to my temple to offer sacrifices to thank me, you will hear them say:

“We praise you,
Lord All-Powerful!
You are good to us,
and your love never fails.”

The land will once again be productive.
11 the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of those who say, Give thanks to Yahweh of Armies, for Yahweh is good, for his loving kindness endures forever; and of them who bring sacrifices of thanksgiving into the house of Yahweh. For I will cause the captivity of the land to return as at the first, says Yahweh. 11 the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of them that say, Give thanks to Jehovah of hosts, for Jehovah is good, for his lovingkindness endureth for ever; and of them that bring sacrifices of thanksgiving into the house of Jehovah. For I will cause the captivity of the land to return as at the first, saith Jehovah. 11 The voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the voice of them that shall say, Praise the LORD of hosts: for the LORD is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: and of them that shall bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the LORD. For I will cause to return the captivity of the land, as at the first, saith the LORD. 11 g 33.11 Los cantos de los novios: Exactamente lo contrario del juicio anunciado en Jer 7.34; 16.9; 25.10. h 33.11 Dad gracias... su amor es eterno: Acerca de este cántico de acción de gracias, véase Sal 136.1 n. 11 ha de oírse aún voz de gozo y de alegría; voz de novio y voz de novia;g voz de los que digan: “¡Alabad a Jehová de los ejércitos, porque Jehová es bueno, porque para siempre es su misericordia!”;h voz de los que traigan ofrendas de acción de gracias a la casa de Jehová, porque yo volveré a traer a los cautivos de la tierra, para que sea como al principio, ha dicho Jehová.

sicut a principio, dicit Dominus.
12-13 Now it is empty, without people or animals. But when that time comes, shepherds will take care of their flocks in pastures near every town in the hill country, in the foothills to the west, in the Southern Desert, in the land of the Benjamin tribe, and around Jerusalem and the towns of Judah.
I, the Lord, have spoken.
12 Thus says Yahweh of Armies: Yet again shall there be in this place, which is waste, without man and without animal, and in all the cities of it, a habitation of shepherds causing their flocks to lie down. 12 Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Yet again shall there be in this place, which is waste, without man and without beast, and in all the cities thereof, a habitation of shepherds causing their flocks to lie down. 12 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Again in this place, which is desolate without man and without beast, and in all the cities thereof, shall be an habitation of shepherds causing their flocks to lie down. 12 i 33.12 Cf. Jer 31.24.
Adhuc erit in loco isto deserto,
absque homine et absque jumento,
et in cunctis civitatibus ejus,
habitaculum pastorum accubantium gregum.
The Lord's Wonderful Promise
14 The Lord said:
I made a wonderful promise to Israel and Judah,
h 33.14 Israel and Judah: See the note at 2.4.
and the days are coming when I will keep it.
14 Behold, the days come, says Yahweh, that I will perform that good word which I have spoken concerning the house of Israel and concerning the house of Judah. 14 Behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that I will perform that good word which I have spoken concerning the house of Israel and concerning the house of Judah. 14 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will perform that good thing which I have promised unto the house of Israel and to the house of Judah.
Ustanova buduænosti
14 "Evo, dolaze dani - rijeè je Jahvina - kad æu ispuniti dobro obeæanje što ga dadoh domu Izraelovu i domu Judinu:

14 Ecce dies veniunt, dicit Dominus,
et suscitabo verbum bonum quod locutus sum
ad domum Israël et ad domum Juda.

15 I promise that the time will come
when I will appoint a king
from the family of David,
a king who will be honest
and rule with justice.
15 In those days, and at that time, will I cause a Branch of righteousness to grow up to David; and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. 15 In those days, and at that time, will I cause a Branch of righteousness to grow up unto David; and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. 15 In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up unto David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land.
15 U one dane i u vrijeme ono
podiæi æu Davidu izdanak pravedni;
on æe zemljom vladati po pravu i pravici.
15 In diebus illis et in tempore illo
germinare faciam David germen justitiæ,
et faciet judicium et justitiam in terra :
16 In those days,
Judah will be safe;
Jerusalem will have peace
and will be named,
“The Lord Gives Justice.”
16 In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely; and this is the name by which she shall be called: Yahweh our righteousness. 16 In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely; and this is the name whereby she shall be called: Jehovah our righteousness. 16 In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is the name wherewith she shall be called, The LORD our righteousness.
The LORD...: Heb. Jehovahtsidkenu
16 U one dane Judeja æe biti spašena,
Jeruzalem æe živjeti spokojno.
A grad æe se zvati:
'Jahve, Pravda naša.'
16 in diebus illis salvabitur Juda,
et Jerusalem habitabit confidenter :
et hoc est nomen quod vocabunt eum :
Dominus justus noster.

17 The king of Israel will be one of David's descendants,
17 For thus says Yahweh: David shall never want a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel; 17 For thus saith Jehovah: David shall never want a man to sit upon the throne of the house of Israel;
17 For thus saith the LORD; David shall never want a man to sit upon the throne of the house of Israel;
David...: Heb. There shall not be cut off from David
17 m 33.17 Cf. 1 R 2.4; 8.25; 9.5.
18 and there will always be priests from the Levi tribe serving at my altar and offering sacrifices to please me and to give thanks.
i 33.18 sacrifices to please me and to give thanks: See the notes at 14.12.
18 neither shall the priests the Levites want a man before me to offer burnt offerings, and to burn meal-offerings, and to do sacrifice continually. 18 neither shall the priests the Levites want a man before me to offer burnt-offerings, and to burn meal-offerings, and to do sacrifice continually. 18 Neither shall the priests the Levites want a man before me to offer burnt offerings, and to kindle meat offerings, and to do sacrifice continually. 18 I nikada neæe levitima i sveæenicima nestati potomaka koji æe služiti preda mnom i prinositi paljenice, kaditi prinosnice i prikazivati klanice u sve dane."

19 Then the Lord told me:
19 The word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah, saying, 19 And the word of Jehovah came unto Jeremiah, saying, 19 And the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah, saying,
19 I doðe rijeè Jahvina Jeremiji:
20 I, the Lord, have an agreement with day and night, so they always come at the right time. You can't break the agreement I made with them,
20 Thus says Yahweh: If you can break my covenant of the day, and my covenant of the night, so that there shall not be day and night in their season; 20 Thus saith Jehovah: If ye can break my covenant of the day, and my covenant of the night, so that there shall not be day and night in their season; 20 Thus saith the LORD; If ye can break my covenant of the day, and my covenant of the night, and that there should not be day and night in their season; 20 o 33.20 Pacto... con el día y con la noche: El término pacto se emplea aquí en sentido metafórico, para indicar la constancia y estabilidad del orden impuesto por Dios al mundo de la naturaleza. Cf. Gn 9.8-17. 20 «Así ha dicho Jehová: Si pudiera invalidarse mi pacto con el día y mi pacto con la noche,o de tal manera que no hubiera día ni noche a su debido tiempo, 20  so spricht der HERR / Wenn mein Bund auffhören wird mit dem tage vnd nacht / das nicht tag vnd nacht sey zu seiner zeit / 20 так говорит Господь: если можете разрушить завет Мой о дне и завет Мой о ночи, чтобы день и ночь не приходили в свое время,
21 and you can't break the agreements I have made with David's family and with the priests from the Levi tribe who serve at my altar. A descendant of David will always rule as king of Israel, 21 then may also my covenant be broken with David my servant, that he shall not have a son to reign on his throne; and with the Levites the priests, my ministers. 21 then may also my covenant be broken with David my servant, that he shall not have a son to reign upon his throne; and with the Levites the priests, my ministers. 21 Then may also my covenant be broken with David my servant, that he should not have a son to reign upon his throne; and with the Levites the priests, my ministers.
22 and there will be more descendants of David and of the priests from the Levi tribe than stars in the sky or grains of sand on the beach. 22 As the army of the sky can’t be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured; so will I multiply the seed of David my servant, and the Levites who minister to me. 22 As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured; so will I multiply the seed of David my servant, and the Levites that minister unto me. 22 As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured: so will I multiply the seed of David my servant, and the Levites that minister unto me. 22 Como no puede ser contado el ejército del cielo ni se puede medir la arena del mar, así multiplicaré la descendencia de David, mi siervo, y de los levitas que me sirven». 22  Wie man des Himels heer nicht zelen / noch den sand am Meer nicht messen kan / Also wil ich mehren den samen Dauids meines Knechts / vnd die Leuiten / die mir dienen. Jere.

23 The Lord also said:
23 The word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah, saying, 23 And the word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah, saying, 23 Moreover the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying,

24 Don’t you consider what this people has spoken, saying, The two families which Yahweh did choose, he has cast them off? thus do they despise my people, that they should be no more a nation before them. 24 Considerest thou not what this people have spoken, saying, The two families which Jehovah did choose, he hath cast them off? thus do they despise my people, that they should be no more a nation before them. 24 Considerest thou not what this people have spoken, saying, The two families which the LORD hath chosen, he hath even cast them off? thus they have despised my people, that they should be no more a nation before them.

25 Jeremiah, I will never break my agreement with the day and the night or let the sky and the earth stop obeying my commands.
25 Thus says Yahweh: If my covenant of day and night fails, if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth; 25 Thus saith Jehovah: If my covenant of day and night stand not, if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth; 25 Thus saith the LORD; If my covenant be not with day and night, and if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth; 25 Esto ha dicho Jehová: Si yo no he establecido mi pacto con el día y con la noche, si no he puesto las leyes del cielo y de la tierra, 25  So spricht der HERR / Halt ich meinen Bund nicht mit tag vnd nacht / noch die ordnung des Himels vnd der Erden / 25 Так говорит Господь: если завета Моего о дне и ночи и уставов неба и земли Я не утвердил,
26 In the same way, I will never reject the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob or break my promise that they will always have a descendant of David as their king. I will be kind to my people Israel, and they will be successful again. 26 then will I also cast away the seed of Jacob, and of David my servant, so that I will not take of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: for I will cause their captivity to return, and will have mercy on them. 26 then will I also cast away the seed of Jacob, and of David my servant, so that I will not take of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: for I will cause their captivity to return, and will have mercy on them. 26 Then will I cast away the seed of Jacob, and David my servant, so that I will not take any of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: for I will cause their captivity to return, and have mercy on them.
26 equidem et semen Jacob et David servi mei projiciam,

But you have abused my name, because you broke your agreement and forced your former slaves back into slavery. 15 You were now turned, and had done that which is right in my eyes, in proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbor; and you had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name: 15 And ye were now turned, and had done that which is right in mine eyes, in proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbor; and ye had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name: 15 And ye were now turned, and had done right in my sight, in proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbour; and ye had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name:

17 You have disobeyed me by not giving your slaves their freedom. So I will give you freedom—the freedom to die in battle or from disease or hunger. I will make you disgusting to all other nations on earth.
17 Therefore thus says Yahweh: you have not listened to me, to proclaim liberty, every man to his brother, and every man to his neighbor: behold, I proclaim to you a liberty, says Yahweh, to the sword, to the pestilence, and to the famine; and I will make you to be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth. 17 Therefore thus saith Jehovah: ye have not hearkened unto me, to proclaim liberty, every man to his brother, and every man to his neighbor: behold, I proclaim unto you a liberty, saith Jehovah, to the sword, to the pestilence, and to the famine; and I will make you to be tossed to and fro among all the kingdoms of the earth. 17 Therefore thus saith the LORD; Ye have not hearkened unto me, in proclaiming liberty, every one to his brother, and every man to his neighbour: behold, I proclaim a liberty for you, saith the LORD, to the sword, to the pestilence, and to the famine; and I will make you to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.

17 Por tanto, así dice Jehová: Ya que vosotros no me habéis escuchado para promulgar cada uno libertad a su hermano y cada uno a su compañero, he aquí que yo promulgo libertad, dice Jehová, a la espada, a la pestilencia y al hambre; y os pondré por afrenta ante todos los reinos de la tierra. 17  DARumb spricht der HERR also / Jr gehorcht mir nicht / das jr ein Freyjar ausrieffet / ein jglicher seinem Bruder vnd seinem Nehesten / Sihe / so ruffe ich (spricht der HERR) euch ein Freyjar aus / zum Schwert / zur Pestilentz / zum Hunger / vnd wil euch in keinem Königreiche auff Erden bleiben lassen. 17 Посему так говорит Господь: вы не послушались Меня в том, чтобы каждый объявил свободу брату своему и ближнему своему; за то вот Я, говорит Господь, объявляю вам свободу подвергнуться мечу, моровой язве и голоду, и отдам вас на озлобление во все царства земли;
17 Zato ovako govori Jahve: "Vi me ne poslušaste da proglasite slobodu subratu svojemu i bližnjemu. I zato, evo, i ja proglašavam protiv vas slobodu - rijeè je Jahvina - maèu, kugi i gladi, i uèinit æu vas strašilom svim kraljevstvima zemlje.
18 You asked me to be a witness when you made the agreement to set your slaves free. And as part of the ceremony you cut a calf into two parts, then walked between the parts. But you people of Jerusalem have broken that agreement as well as my agreement with Israel. So I will do to you what you did to that calf.
18 I will give the men who have transgressed my covenant, who have not performed the words of the covenant which they made before me, when they cut the calf in two and passed between the parts of it; 18 And I will give the men that have transgressed my covenant, that have not performed the words of the covenant which they made before me, when they cut the calf in twain and passed between the parts thereof; 18 And I will give the men that have transgressed my covenant, which have not performed the words of the covenant which they had made before me, when they cut the calf in twain, and passed between the parts thereof, 18 j 34.18-19 La renovación del pacto o alianza se llevó a cabo con un rito similar al descrito en Gn 15.9-10,17-18: los que sellaban el pacto pasaban en medio de un animal dividido en dos partes, y aceptaban para sí la misma suerte de la víctima en caso de faltar al compromiso contraído solemnemente. Véase Gn 15.9 n. 18 Y entregaré a los hombres que quebrantaron mi pacto, que no han llevado a efecto las palabras del pacto que celebraron en mi presencia dividiendo en dos partes el becerro y pasando por medio de ellas; 18  Vnd wil die Leute / so meinen Bund vbertretten / vnd die wort des Bundes den sie fur mir gemacht haben / nicht halten / so machen / wie das Kalb / das sie in zwey stück geteilet haben / vnd zwischen den Teilen hin gegangen sind / 18 и отдам преступивших завет Мой и не устоявших в словах завета, который они заключили пред лицом Моим, рассекши тельца надвое и пройдя между рассеченными частями его,
19-20 I will let your enemies take all of you prisoner, including the leaders of Judah and Jerusalem, the royal officials, the priests, and everyone else who walked between the two parts of the calf. These enemies will kill you and leave your bodies lying on the ground as food for birds and wild animals. 19 the princes of Judah, and the princes of Jerusalem, the eunuchs, and the priests, and all the people of the land, who passed between the parts of the calf; 19 the princes of Judah, and the princes of Jerusalem, the eunuchs, and the priests, and all the people of the land, that passed between the parts of the calf; 19 The princes of Judah, and the princes of Jerusalem, the eunuchs, and the priests, and all the people of the land, which passed between the parts of the calf; 19 a los jefes de Judá y a los jefes de Jerusalén, a los oficiales, a los sacerdotes y a todo el pueblo de la tierra, que pasaron entre las partes del becerro,j 19  nemlich die fürsten Juda / die fürsten Jerusalem / die Kemerer / die Priester / vnd das gantze volck im Lande / so zwischen des Kalbs stücken

Go to the house of the Rechabites, and speak to them, and bring them into the house of Yahweh, into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink. Go unto the house of the Rechabites, and speak unto them, and bring them into the house of Jehovah, into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink. Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habazziniah, and his brothers, and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites; Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habazziniah, and his brethren, and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites; 3 Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habaziniah, and his brethren, and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites; d 35.3 Según 1 Cr 2.55, los recabitas (Bet-recab) eran una rama de los quenitas, un clan seminómada que había entrado en contacto con los israelitas en el desierto, después de la salida de Egipto (cf. Jue 1.16; 4.11; 1 S 15.6; 30.29).

14 'Ispunjuju se rijeèi Jonadaba, sina Rekabova, koji je sinovima svojim zabranio da piju vina, i do dana današnjega nitko ga nije pio, jer oni slušaju rijeè svoga oca. A ja sam vam jednako govorio, ali me niste slušali.
15 You refused to listen to my prophets, who kept telling you, “Stop doing evil and worshiping other gods! Start obeying the Lord, and he will let you live in this land he gave your ancestors.” 15 I have sent also to you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return you now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and don’t go after other gods to serve them, and you shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but you have not inclined your ear, nor listened to me. 15 I have sent also unto you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return ye now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and ye shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but ye have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened unto me. 15 i 35.15 Os he enviado... profetas: Jer 7.25; 25.4; 26.5; 29.19; 44.4. j 35.15 Jer 7.5-7; 26.4-6. 15 Envié a vosotros todos mis siervos los profetas,i desde el principio y sin cesar, para deciros: Volveos ahora cada uno de vuestro mal camino, enmendad vuestras obras y no vayáis tras dioses extraños para servirlos, y viviréis en la tierra que os di a vosotros y a vuestros padres; pero no inclinasteis vuestro oído ni me escuchasteis.j 15  So hab ich auch stets zu euch gesand alle meine Knechte die Propheten / vnd lassen sagen / Bekeret euch / ein jglicher von seinem bösen wesen / vnd bessert ewrn wandel / vnd folget nicht andern Göttern nach jnen zu dienen / So solt jr im Lande bleiben / welchs ich euch vnd ewern Vetern gegeben habe / Aber jr woltet ewer ohren nicht neigen / noch mir gehorchen. 15 I slao sam bez prestanka k vama sluge svoje, proroke, da vam propovijedaju: 'Vratite se svaki sa svoga opakog puta, popravite djela svoja i ne trèite za tuðim bogovima da im služite, pa æete ostati u zemlji koju dadoh vama i ocima vašim'; ali ne prikloniste uha svojega i ne poslušaste me. 15 Misique ad vos omnes servos meos prophetas, consurgens diluculo mittensque, et dicens : Convertimini unusquisque a via sua pessima, et bona facite studia vestra : et nolite sequi deos alienos, neque colatis eos, et habitabitis in terra quam dedi vobis et patribus vestris : et non inclinastis aurem vestram, neque audistis me.
16 The Rechabites have obeyed the command of their ancestor Jonadab, but you have not obeyed me,
16 Because the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father which he commanded them, but this people has not listened to me; 16 Forasmuch as the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father which he commanded them, but this people hath not hearkened unto me; 16 Because the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father, which he commanded them; but this people hath not hearkened unto me: 16 k 35.16 Jonadab, hijo de Recab: Véase Jer 35.2 n. 16 Ciertamente los hijos de Jonadab hijo de Recabk tuvieron por firme el mandamiento que les dio su padre; pero este pueblo no me ha obedecido. Ali mene ovaj narod ne sluša.' 16 Firmaverunt igitur filii Jonadab filii Rechab præceptum patris sui quod præceperat eis : populus autem iste non obedivit mihi.
17 your God. I am the Lord All-Powerful, and I warned you about the terrible things that would happen to you if you did not listen to me. You have ignored me, so now disaster will strike you. I, the Lord, have spoken. 17 therefore thus says Yahweh, the God of Armies, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring on Judah and on all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them; because I have spoken to them, but they have not heard; and I have called to them, but they have not answered. 17 therefore thus saith Jehovah, the God of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring upon Judah and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them; because I have spoken unto them, but they have not heard; and I have called unto them, but they have not answered. 17 Therefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon Judah and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them: because I have spoken unto them, but they have not heard; and I have called unto them, but they have not answered. 17 Zato govori Jahve nad Vojskama, Bog Izraelov: 'Evo, navuæi æu na sve Jeruzalemce sve one nevolje kojima sam im zaprijetio, jer sam im govorio, a oni me ne slušahu, dozivao ih, ali se oni ne odazivahu.'" 17 Idcirco hæc dicit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israël : Ecce ego adducam super Juda et super omnes habitatores Jerusalem universam afflictionem quam locutus sum adversum illos, eo quod locutus sum ad illos, et non audierunt ; vocavi illos, et non responderunt mihi.
The Lord Makes a Promise to the Rechabites
18 Then the Lord told me to say to the Rechabite clan:
I am the Lord All-Powerful, the God of Israel. You have obeyed your ancestor Jonadab,
18 Jeremiah said to the house of the Rechabites, Thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel: Because you have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according to all that he commanded you; 18 And Jeremiah said unto the house of the Rechabites, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Because ye have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according unto all that he commanded you; 18 And Jeremiah said unto the house of the Rechabites, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Because ye have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according unto all that he hath commanded you:
18  VND zum hause der Rechabiter sprach Jeremia / so spricht der HERR Zebaoth der Gott Jsrael / Darumb / das jr dem Gebot ewers vaters Jonadab gehorcht / vnd alle seine gebot gehalten / vnd alles gethan was er euch geboten hat / 18 А дому Рехавитов сказал Иеремия: так говорит Господь Саваоф, Бог Израилев: за то, что вы послушались завещания Ионадава, отца вашего, и храните все заповеди его и во всем поступаете, как он завещал вам, -
18 Zajednici Rekabovaca Jeremija reèe: "Ovako govori Jahve nad Vojskama, Bog Izraelov: 'Jer ste slušali zapovijedi svoga oca Jonadaba i držali se svih naredaba i èinili sve što vam je on zapovjedio,
18 Domui autem Rechabitarum dixit Jeremias : Hæc dicit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israël : Pro eo quod obedistis præcepto Jonadab patris vestri, et custodistis omnia mandata ejus, et fecistis universa quæ præcepit vobis,
19 so I promise that your clan will be my servants and will never die out. 19 therefore thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel: Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me forever. 19 therefore thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me for ever. 19 Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me for ever.
Jonadab...: Heb. There shall not a man be cut off from Jonadab the son of Rechab to stand, etc
19 zato - ovako govori Jahve nad Vojskama, kralj Izraelov - Jonadabu, sinu Rekabovu, nikad neæe ponestati potomka koji æe stajati pred licem mojim u sve dane.'" 19 propterea hæc dicit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israël : Non deficiet vir de stirpe Jonadab filii Rechab, stans in conspectu meo cunctis diebus.

4 I sent for Baruch son of Neriah and asked him to help me. I repeated everything the Lord had told me, and Baruch wrote it all down on a scroll.
Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah; and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of Yahweh, which he had spoken to him, on a scroll of a book. Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah; and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of Jehovah, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book. 4 Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah: and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the LORD, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book. d 36.4 Baruc, hijo de Nerías: Véase Jer 32.12 n. e 36.4 Muchas veces se ha tratado de reconstruir el contenido de esta primera colección de oráculos proféticos, pero las soluciones propuestas no han resultado satisfactorias.
5 Then I said,
Baruch, the officials refuse to let me go into the Lord's temple,
Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I can’t go into the house of Yahweh: And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I cannot go into the house of Jehovah: 5 And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I cannot go into the house of the LORD: f 36.5 Se desconoce la naturaleza del impedimento que mantuvo a Jeremías alejado del templo. Después mandó Jeremías a Baruc, diciendo:
Vnd Jeremia gebot Baruch / vnd sprach / Jch bin gefangen / das ich nicht kan in des HERRN Haus gehen. И приказал Иеремия Варуху и сказал: я заключен и не могу идти в дом Господень;

Then take this scroll to the temple and read it aloud.
therefore go you, and read in the scroll, which you have written from my mouth, the words of Yahweh in the ears of the people in Yahweh’s house on the fast-day; and also you shall read them in the ears of all Judah who come out of their cities. therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of Jehovah in the ears of the people in Jehovah's house upon the fast-day; and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities. 6 Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the LORD in the ears of the people in the LORD'S house upon the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities. g 36.6 Este ayuno incluía una ceremonia penitencial que congregaba en el templo a una gran cantidad de gente. Véase Is 58.3 n.; cf. Jl 1.14. 7 The Lord is furious, and if the people hear how he is going to punish them, maybe they will ask to be forgiven. It may be they will present their supplication before Yahweh, and will return everyone from his evil way; for great is the anger and the wrath that Yahweh has pronounced against this people. It may be they will present their supplication before Jehovah, and will return every one from his evil way; for great is the anger and the wrath that Jehovah hath pronounced against this people. 7 It may be they will present their supplication before the LORD, and will return every one from his evil way: for great is the anger and the fury that the LORD hath pronounced against this people.

of the fifth year that Jehoiakim was king, the leaders set a day when everyone who lived in Jerusalem or who was visiting here had to pray and go without eating. So Baruch took the scroll to the upper courtyard of the temple. He went over to the side of the courtyard and stood in a covered area near New Gate, where he read the scroll aloud.
This covered area belonged to Gemariah,

14 Then the officials sent Jehudi and Shelemiah
a 36.14 Jehudi and Shelemiah: Hebrew “Jehudi son of Nethaniah and Shelemiah son of Cushi.”
to tell Baruch, “Bring us that scroll.”
When Baruch arrived with the scroll,
14 Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, to Baruch, saying, Take in your hand the scroll in which you have read in the ears of the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Neriah took the scroll in his hand, and came to them. 14 Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, unto Baruch, saying, Take in thy hand the roll wherein thou hast read in the ears of the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, and came unto them. 14 Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, unto Baruch, saying, Take in thine hand the roll wherein thou hast read in the ears of the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, and came unto them.
14 Tada dostojanstvenici poslaše Jehudija, sina Netanijina, i Šelemju, sina Kušijeva, Baruhu da mu kažu: "Uzmi u ruke svitak iz kojega si èitao narodu i doði!" Tada Baruh, sin Nerijin, uze svitak u ruke i doðe k njima.
14 Miserunt itaque omnes principes ad Baruch Judi filium Nathaniæ filii Selemiæ filii Chusi, dicentes : Volumen ex quo legisti, audiente populo, sume in manu tua, et veni.
15 the officials said, “Please sit down and read it to us,” which he did. 15 They said to him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So Baruch read it in their ears. 15 And they said unto him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So Baruch read it in their ears. 15 And they said unto him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So Baruch read it in their ears. 15 l 36.15 Dijeron: según la versión griega (LXX). Heb. añade a Baruc. 15 Le dijeron: «Siéntate ahora y léenoslo a nosotros». 15 Oni mi rekoše: "Hajde, sjedi i proèitaj nam!" I Baruh im proèita.
16 After they heard what was written on the scroll, they were worried and said to each other, “The king needs to hear this!” Turning to Baruch, they asked, 16 Now it happened, when they had heard all the words, they turned in fear one toward another, and said to Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words. 16 Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they turned in fear one toward another, and said unto Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words. 16 Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they were afraid both one and other, and said unto Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words. 16 Kad èuše sve one rijeèi, uplašeno se pogledaše i rekoše Baruhu: "Moramo sve to kazati kralju." 16 Igitur cum audissent omnia verba, obstupuerunt unusquisque ad proximum suum, et dixerunt ad Baruch : Nuntiare debemus regi omnes sermones istos.
17 “Did someone tell you what to write on this scroll?” 17 They asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How did you write all these words at his mouth? 17 And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How didst thou write all these words at his mouth? 17 And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How didst thou write all these words at his mouth? 17 m 36.17 Esto: según la versión griega (LXX). Heb. añade ¿Él te lo dictó? 17 Preguntaron luego a Baruc, diciendo:
17 I upitaše Baruha: "Hajde, objasni nam kako ti napisa sve te rijeèi." 17 Et interrogaverunt eum, dicentes : Indica nobis quomodo scripsisti omnes sermones istos ex ore ejus.
18 “Yes, Jeremiah did,” Baruch replied. “I wrote down just what he told me.”
18 Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words to me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book. 18 Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book. 18 Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book.
18 Baruh æe njima: "Jeremija mi je sve te rijeèi u pero kazivao, a ja sam ih crnilom u knjigu zapisao." 18 Dixit autem eis Baruch : Ex ore suo loquebatur quasi legens ad me omnes sermones istos, et ego scribebam in volumine atramento.
19 The officials said, “You and Jeremiah must go into hiding, and don't tell anyone where you are.”
19 Then said the princes to Baruch, Go, hide you, you and Jeremiah; and let no man know where you are. 19 Then said the princes unto Baruch, Go, hide thee, thou and Jeremiah; and let no man know where ye are. 19 Then said the princes unto Baruch, Go, hide thee, thou and Jeremiah; and let no man know where ye be.
19 Tada dostojanstvenici rekoše Baruhu: "Idi i sakrijte se, ti i Jeremija; nitko da ne zna gdje ste." 19 Et dixerunt principes ad Baruch : Vade, et abscondere, tu et Jeremias, et nemo sciat ubi sitis.
20-22 The officials put the scroll in Elishama's room and went to see the king, who was in one of the rooms where he lived and worked during the winter. It was the ninth month

of the year, so there was a fire burning in the fireplace,

and the king was sitting nearby. After the officials told the king about the scroll, he sent Jehudi to get it. Then Jehudi started reading the scroll to the king and his officials.
20 They went in to the king into the court; but they had laid up the scroll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe; and they told all the words in the ears of the king. 20 And they went in to the king into the court; but they had laid up the roll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe; and they told all the words in the ears of the king.
20 And they went in to the king into the court, but they laid up the roll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and told all the words in the ears of the king.
20 I, pohranivši svitak u dvorani pisara Elišame, poðoše kralju u dvorsko predvorje i sve mu ispripovjediše.
23-25 But every time Jehudi finished reading three or four columns, the king would tell him to cut them off with his penknife and throw them in the fire. Elnathan, Delaiah, and Gemariah begged the king not to burn the scroll, but he ignored them, and soon there was nothing left of it.
The king and his servants listened to what was written on the scroll, but they were not afraid, and they did not tear their clothes in sorrow.
d 36.23-25 they did not tear their clothes in sorrow: Such actions would have shown that they were sorry for disobeying the Lord and were turning back to him.
23 It happened, when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, that the king cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was in the brazier, until all the scroll was consumed in the fire that was in the brazier. 23 And it came to pass, when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, that the king cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was in the brazier, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was in the brazier. 23 And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth.
26 The king told his son Jerahmeel to take Seraiah and Shelemiah
e 36.26 Seraiah and Shelemiah: Hebrew “Seraiah son of Azriel and Shelemiah son of Abdeel.”
and to go arrest Baruch and me.
f 36.26 me: Jeremiah.
But the Lord kept them from finding us.
26 The king commanded Jerahmeel the king’s son, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet; but Yahweh hid them. 26 And the king commanded Jerahmeel the king's son, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet; but Jehovah hid them. 26 But the king commanded Jerahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet: but the LORD hid them.
of Hammelech: or, of the king
26 Tada kralj zapovjedi kraljeviæu Jerahmeelu i Seraji, sinu Azrielovu, i Šelemji, sinu Abdeelovu, da uhvate pisara Baruha i proroka Jeremiju.
Jeremiah's Second Scroll
27 I had told Baruch what to write on that first scroll,

but King Jehoiakim

had burned it. So the Lord told me
27 Then the word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the scroll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying, 27 Then the word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying, 27 Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying,
28 to get another scroll and write down everything that had been on the first one. 28 Take again another scroll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first scroll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah has burned. 28 Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned. 28 Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned.
29 Then he told me to say to King Jehoiakim:
Not only did you burn Jeremiah's scroll, you had the nerve to ask why he had written that the king of Babylonia would attack and ruin the land, killing all the people and even the animals.
29 Concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah you shall say, Thus says Yahweh: You have burned this scroll, saying, Why have you written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from there man and animal? 29 And concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah thou shalt say, Thus saith Jehovah: Thou hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast? 29 And thou shalt say to Jehoiakim king of Judah, Thus saith the LORD; Thou hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast? 29 а царю Иудейскому Иоакиму скажи: так говорит Господь: ты сжег свиток сей, сказав: «зачем ты написал в нем: непременно придет царь Вавилонский и разорит землю сию, и истребит на ней людей и скот?» 29 A protiv Jojakima, kralja judejskoga, ovako reci: Ovako govori Jahve: Spalio si svitak govoreæi: 'Zašto si u njemu napisao da æe doæi kralj babilonski koji æe opustošiti zemlju ovu i istrijebiti i ljude i stoku?' 29 Et ad Joakim regem Juda dices : Hæc dicit Dominus : Tu combussisti volumen illud, dicens : Quare scripsisti in eo annuntians : Festinus veniet rex Babylonis, et vastabit terram hanc, et cessare faciet ex illa hominem et jumentum ?
30 So I, the Lord, promise that you will be killed and your body thrown out on the ground. The sun will beat down on it during the day, and the frost will settle on it at night. And none of your descendants will ever be king of Judah. 30 Therefore thus says Yahweh concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah: He shall have none to sit on the throne of David; and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost. 30 Therefore thus saith Jehovah concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah: He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David; and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost. 30 Therefore thus saith the LORD of Jehoiakim king of Judah; He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David: and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost. 30 За это, так говорит Господь об Иоакиме, царе Иудейском: не будет от него сидящего на престоле Давидовом, и труп его будет брошен на зной дневной и на холод ночной; 30 Zato ovako govori Jahve protiv Jojakima, kralja judejskoga: 'On neæe imati potomka da sjedne na prijestolje Davidovo, a njegovo mrtvo tijelo bit æe baèeno na pripeku danju i noæni mraz.
31 You, your children, and your servants are evil, and I will punish all of you. I warned you and the people of Judah and Jerusalem that I would bring disaster, but none of you have listened. So now you are doomed! 31 I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring on them, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and on the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them, but they didn’t listen. 31 And I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them, but they hearkened not. 31 And I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them; but they hearkened not.

32 After the Lord finished speaking to me, I got another scroll and gave it to Baruch. Then I told him what to write, so this second scroll would contain even more than was on the scroll Jehoiakim had burned.
32 Then took Jeremiah another scroll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah, who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire; and there were added besides to them many like words. 32 Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah, who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire; and there were added besides unto them many like words. 32 Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire: and there were added besides unto them many like words.

32 Tada Jeremija uze drugi svitak, dade ga pisaru Baruhu, sinu Nerijinu, i on po kazivanju Jeremijinu upisa sve rijeèi knjige koju je Jojakim, kralj judejski, na žeravnici spalio. I k njima je dopisano još mnogo onakvih rijeèi.

2-3 that the Lord had said, “If you stay here in Jerusalem, you will die in battle or from disease or hunger, and the Babylonian army will capture the city anyway. But if you surrender to the Babylonians, they will let you live.” Thus says Yahweh, He who remains in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence; but he who goes forth to the Chaldeans shall live, and his life shall be to him for a prey, and he shall live. Thus saith Jehovah, He that abideth in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence; but he that goeth forth to the Chaldeans shall live, and his life shall be unto him for a prey, and he shall live. 2 Thus saith the LORD, He that remaineth in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: but he that goeth forth to the Chaldeans shall live; for he shall have his life for a prey, and shall live. d 38.2 Guerra, hambre y peste: Véanse las referencias en Jer 14.12 n. e 38.2 Al menos salvar su vida: Véase Jer 21.8-10 n. "Ovako govori Jahve: 'Tko ostane u ovome gradu, poginut æe od maèa, gladi i kuge.
4 So the four of them went to the king and said, “You should put Jeremiah to death, because he is making the soldiers and everyone else lose hope. He isn't trying to help our people; he's trying to harm them.”
Then the princes said to the king, Let this man, we pray you, be put to death; because he weakens the hands of the men of war who remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words to them: for this man doesn’t seek the welfare of this people, but the hurt. Then the princes said unto the king, Let this man, we pray thee, be put to death; forasmuch as he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them: for this man seeketh not the welfare of this people, but the hurt. 4 Therefore the princes said unto the king, We beseech thee, let this man be put to death: for thus he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them: for this man seeketh not the welfare of this people, but the hurt.
welfare: Heb. peace
5 Zedekiah replied, “Do what you want with him. I can't stop you.”
Zedekiah the king said, Behold, he is in your hand; for the king is not he who can do anything against you. And Zedekiah the king said, Behold, he is in your hand; for the king is not he that can do anything against you. 5 Then Zedekiah the king said, Behold, he is in your hand: for the king is not he that can do any thing against you. f 38.5 Yo nada puedo contra vosotros: Esta frase refleja el estado de anarquía que reinaba en Jerusalén antes de la caída de la ciudad en poder del rey de Babilonia (cf. Jer 39.1-10). A kralj Sidkija odgovori: "Eto, on je u vašim rukama, jer kralj ionako više nema nikakve vlasti nad vama." 5 Et dixit rex Sedecias : Ecce ipse in manibus vestris est : nec enim fas est regem vobis quidquam negare.
6 Then they took me back to the courtyard of the palace guards and let me down with ropes into the well that belonged to Malchiah, the king's son. There was no water in the well, and I sank down in the mud.
Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchijah the king’s son, that was in the court of the guard: and they let down Jeremiah with cords. In the dungeon there was no water, but mire; and Jeremiah sank in the mire. Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchijah the king's son, that was in the court of the guard: and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire; and Jeremiah sank in the mire. 6 Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, that was in the court of the prison: and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire: so Jeremiah sunk in the mire.

Porro rex sedebat in porta Benjamin :
9 Ebedmelech said, “Your Majesty, Jeremiah is a prophet, and those men were wrong to throw him into a well. And when Jerusalem runs out of food, Jeremiah will starve to death down there.” My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon; and he is likely to die in the place where he is, because of the famine; for there is no more bread in the city. My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon; and he is like to die in the place where he is, because of the famine; for there is no more bread in the city. 9 My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon; and he is like to die for hunger in the place where he is: for there is no more bread in the city.

11 Ebedmelech and the soldiers went to the palace and got some rags from the room under the treasury. He used ropes to lower them into the well.
11 So Ebedmelech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took there rags and worn-out garments, and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah. 11 So Ebed-melech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took thence rags and worn-out garments, and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah. 11 So Ebedmelech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took thence old cast clouts and old rotten rags, and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah. 11 j 38.11 Depósito de ropa: texto probable (cf. 2 R 10.22). And Jeremiah did so. 12 Y dijo el etíope Ebed-melec a Jeremías: «Ponte ahora esos trapos viejos, raídos y andrajosos bajo los sobacos, por debajo de las sogas». 13 the men pulled me out. And from then on, I was kept in the courtyard of the palace guards. 13 So they drew up Jeremiah with the cords, and took him up out of the dungeon: and Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard. 13 So they drew up Jeremiah with the cords, and took him up out of the dungeon: and Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard. 13 So they drew up Jeremiah with cords, and took him up out of the dungeon: and Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison. 13 De este modo sacaron con sogas a Jeremías y lo subieron de la cisterna. to the temple, and he said, “I'm going to ask you something, and I want to know the truth.”
14 Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took Jeremiah the prophet to him into the third entry that is in the house of Yahweh: and the king said to Jeremiah, I will ask you a thing; hide nothing from me. 14 Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took Jeremiah the prophet unto him into the third entry that is in the house of Jehovah: and the king said unto Jeremiah, I will ask thee a thing; hide nothing from me.

Sedequías consulta secretamente a Jeremías
15 “Why?” I replied. “You won't listen, and you might even have me killed!”
15 Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, If I declare it to you, will you not surely put me to death? and if I give you counsel, you will not listen to me. 15 Then Jeremiah said unto Zedekiah, If I declare it unto thee, wilt thou not surely put me to death? and if I give thee counsel, thou wilt not hearken unto me. 15 Then Jeremiah said unto Zedekiah, If I declare it unto thee, wilt thou not surely put me to death? and if I give thee counsel, wilt thou not hearken unto me?
15 Jeremías dijo a Sedequías:
Y si te doy consejo, no me escucharás.
15 Jeremija odgovori Sidkiji: "Ako ti kažem, neæeš li me pogubiti? Ako te pak posvjetujem, neæeš me poslušati!" 15 Dixit autem Jeremias ad Sedeciam : Si annuntiavero tibi, numquid non interficies me ? et si consilium dedero tibi, non me audies.
16 He said, “I swear in the name of the living Lord our Creator that I won't have you killed. No one else can hear what we say, and I won't let anyone kill you.”
16 So Zedekiah the king swore secretly to Jeremiah, saying, As Yahweh lives, who made us this soul, I will not put you to death, neither will I give you into the hand of these men who seek your life. 16 So Zedekiah the king sware secretly unto Jeremiah, saying, As Jehovah liveth, that made us this soul, I will not put thee to death, neither will I give thee into the hand of these men that seek thy life. 16 So Zedekiah the king sware secretly unto Jeremiah, saying, As the LORD liveth, that made us this soul, I will not put thee to death, neither will I give thee into the hand of these men that seek thy life.
17 Then I told him that the Lord had said: “Zedekiah, I am the Lord God All-Powerful, the God of Israel. I promise that if you surrender to King Nebuchadnezzar's

officers, you and your family won't be killed, and Jerusalem won't be burned down.
17 Then said Jeremiah to Zedekiah, Thus says Yahweh, the God of Armies, the God of Israel: If you will go forth to the king of Babylon’s princes, then your soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire; and you shall live, and your house. 17 Then said Jeremiah unto Zedekiah, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of hosts, the God of Israel: If thou wilt go forth unto the king of Babylon's princes, then thy soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire; and thou shalt live, and thy house. 17 Then said Jeremiah unto Zedekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; If thou wilt assuredly go forth unto the king of Babylon's princes, then thy soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire; and thou shalt live, and thine house:
17 Entonces dijo Jeremías a Sedequías:
17 Тогда Иеремия сказал Седекии: так говорит Господь Бог Саваоф, Бог Израилев: если ты выйдешь к князьям царя Вавилонского, то жива будет душа твоя, и этот город не будет сожжен огнем, и ты будешь жив, и дом твой; 17 Jeremija, dakle, reèe Sidkiji: "Ovako govori Jahve, Bog nad Vojskama, Bog Izraelov: 'Ako izaðeš pred vojskovoðe kralja babilonskoga, spasit æeš glavu i ovaj grad neæe biti uništen požarom; živjet æete ti i tvoj dom.
18 But if you don't surrender, I will let the Babylonian army capture Jerusalem and burn it down, and you will be taken prisoner.” 18 But if you will not go forth to the king of Babylon’s princes, then shall this city be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and you shall not escape out of their hand. 18 But if thou wilt not go forth to the king of Babylon's princes, then shall this city be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and thou shalt not escape out of their hand. 18 But if thou wilt not go forth to the king of Babylon's princes, then shall this city be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and thou shalt not escape out of their hand. 18 а если не выйдешь к князьям царя Вавилонского, то этот город будет предан в руки Халдеев, и они сожгут его огнем, и ты не избежишь от рук их. 18 Ako pak ne izaðeš pred vojskovoðe kralja babilonskoga, ovaj æe grad pasti u ruke Kaldejaca i oni æe ga spaliti, a ti se neæeš spasiti iz ruku njihovih.'" 18 Si autem non exieris ad principes regis Babylonis, tradetur civitas hæc in manus Chaldæorum, et succendent eam igni : et tu non effugies de manu eorum.
19 Zedekiah answered, “I can't surrender to the Babylonians. I'm too afraid of the Jews that have already joined them. The Babylonians might hand me over to those Jews, and they would torture me.”
19 Zedekiah the king said to Jeremiah, I am afraid of the Jews who are fallen away to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hand, and they mock me. 19 And Zedekiah the king said unto Jeremiah, I am afraid of the Jews that are fallen away to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hand, and they mock me. 19 And Zedekiah the king said unto Jeremiah, I am afraid of the Jews that are fallen to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hand, and they mock me. 19 l 38.19 Cf.
20 I said, “If you will just obey the Lord, the Babylonians won't hand you over to those Jews. You will be allowed to live, and all will go well for you.
20 But Jeremiah said, They shall not deliver you. Obey, I beg you, the voice of Yahweh, in that which I speak to you: so it shall be well with you, and your soul shall live. 20 But Jeremiah said, They shall not deliver thee. Obey, I beseech thee, the voice of Jehovah, in that which I speak unto thee: so it shall be well with thee, and thy soul shall live. 20 But Jeremiah said, They shall not deliver thee. Obey, I beseech thee, the voice of the LORD, which I speak unto thee: so it shall be well unto thee, and thy soul shall live. 20 Dijo Jeremías:
--No te entregarán.
20 Jeremija odvrati: "Oni to neæe uèiniti. Poslušaj glas Jahvin prema kojem sam ti govorio, bit æe ti dobro i spasit æeš život svoj.
21 But the Lord has shown me that if you refuse to obey, 21 But if you refuse to go forth, this is the word that Yahweh has shown me: 21 But if thou refuse to go forth, this is the word that Jehovah hath showed me: 21 But if thou refuse to go forth, this is the word that the LORD hath shewed me: 21 n 38.21 Me ha hecho ver: Cf. 21 Ali ako ne htjedneš iz grada, evo rijeèi koju mi Jahve objavi: 21 Quod si nolueris egredi, iste est sermo quem ostendit mihi Dominus :
22 then the women of your palace will be taken prisoner by Nebuchadnezzar's officials. And those women will say to you:

Friends you trusted led you astray.
Now you're trapped in mud,
and those friends you trusted
have all turned away.
22 behold, all the women who are left in the king of Judah’s house shall be brought forth to the king of Babylon’s princes, and those women shall say, Your familiar friends have set you on, and have prevailed over you: now that your feet are sunk in the mire, they are turned away back. 22 behold, all the women that are left in the king of Judah's house shall be brought forth to the king of Babylon's princes, and those women shall say, Thy familiar friends have set thee on, and have prevailed over thee: now that thy feet are sunk in the mire, they are turned away back. 22 And, behold, all the women that are left in the king of Judah's house shall be brought forth to the king of Babylon's princes, and those women shall say, Thy friends have set thee on, and have prevailed against thee: thy feet are sunk in the mire, and they are turned away back.
Thy friends: Heb. Men of thy peace

y han prevalecido contra ti tus amigos;
22 'Gle, sve žene koje su još ostale u dvoru kralja judejskoga bit æe odvedene k vojskovoðama kralja babilonskoga i govorit æe:
Zaveli te, svladali te
vjerni prijatelji tvoji!
Kad ti noge u kal propadaju,
oni te napuštaju!'
22 ecce omnes mulieres quæ remanserunt in domo regis Juda educentur ad principes regis Babylonis, et ipsæ dicent : Seduxerunt te, et prævaluerunt adversum te, viri pacifici tui : demerserunt in cœno et in lubrico pedes tuos, et recesserunt a te.

23 The Babylonian army will take your wives and children captive, you will be taken as a prisoner to the King of Babylonia, and Jerusalem will be burned down.”
z 38.23 Jerusalem will be burned down: A few Hebrew manuscripts and three ancient translations; most Hebrew manuscripts “you will burn Jerusalem down”; one ancient translation “he will burn Jerusalem down.”
23 They shall bring out all your wives and your children to the Chaldeans; and you shall not escape out of their hand, but shall be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon: and you shall cause this city to be burned with fire. 23 And they shall bring out all thy wives and thy children to the Chaldeans; and thou shalt not escape out of their hand, but shalt be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon: and thou shalt cause this city to be burned with fire. 23 So they shall bring out all thy wives and thy children to the Chaldeans: and thou shalt not escape out of their hand, but shalt be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon: and thou shalt cause this city to be burned with fire.
thou shalt cause...: Heb. thou shalt burn, etc

24 Zedekiah said, “Jeremiah, if you tell anyone what we have talked about, you might lose your life.
24 Then said Zedekiah to Jeremiah, Let no man know of these words, and you shall not die. 24 Then said Zedekiah unto Jeremiah, Let no man know of these words, and thou shalt not die. 24 Then said Zedekiah unto Jeremiah, Let no man know of these words, and thou shalt not die.
24 Dijo Sedequías a Jeremías:
--Nadie sepa estas palabras, y no morirás.
24  VND Zedekia sprach zu Jeremia / Sihe zu / das niemand diese rede erfare / so wirstu nicht sterben. 24 И сказал Седекия Иеремии: никто не должен знать этих слов, и тогда ты не умрешь;
25 And I'm sure that if my officials hear about our meeting, they will ask you what we said to each other. They might even threaten to kill you if you don't tell them. 25 But if the princes hear that I have talked with you, and they come to you, and tell you, Declare to us now what you have said to the king; don’t hide it from us, and we will not put you to death; also what the king said to you: 25 But if the princes hear that I have talked with thee, and they come unto thee, and say unto thee, Declare unto us now what thou hast said unto the king; hide it not from us, and we will not put thee to death; also what the king said unto thee: 25 But if the princes hear that I have talked with thee, and they come unto thee, and say unto thee, Declare unto us now what thou hast said unto the king, hide it not from us, and we will not put thee to death; also what the king said unto thee: 25 Y si los jefes oyen que yo he hablado contigo, y vienen a ti a decirte: “Decláranos ahora qué hablaste con el rey; no nos lo ocultes, y no te mataremos; y dinos también qué te dijo el rey”, 25  Vnd obs die Fürsten erfüren / das ich mit dir geredt habe / vnd kemen zu dir / vnd sprechen / Sage an / was hastu mit dem Könige geredt / leugne es vns nicht / so wollen wir dich nicht tödten / vnd was hat der König mit dir geredt? 25 и если услышат князья, что я разговаривал с тобою, и придут к тебе, и скажут тебе: «скажи нам, что говорил ты царю, не скрой от нас, и мы не предадим тебя смерти, - и также что говорил тебе царь», 25 Ako, dakle, dostojanstvenici doznaju da sam s tobom razgovarao te doðu k tebi i kažu: 'Tȁ oèituj nam što kralj kaza tebi, a ti njemu; ne krij ništa pred nama, inaèe æemo te ubiti', 25 Si autem audierint principes quia locutus sum tecum, et venerint ad te, et dixerint tibi : Indica nobis quid locutus sis cum rege : ne celes nos, et non te interficiemus : et quid locutus est tecum rex :
26 So if they question you, tell them you were begging me not to send you back to the prison at Jonathan's house, because going back there would kill you.” 26 then you shall tell them, I presented my supplication before the king, that he would not cause me to return to Jonathan’s house, to die there. 26 then thou shalt say unto them, I presented my supplication before the king, that he would not cause me to return to Jonathan's house, to die there. 26 Then thou shalt say unto them, I presented my supplication before the king, that he would not cause me to return to Jonathan's house, to die there. 26 les dirás: “Supliqué al rey que no me hiciera volver a casa de Jonatán, para que no me muriera allí”. 26  So sprich / Jch hab den König gebeten / das er mich nicht widerumb liesse ins Jonathan haus füren / ich möcht daselbs sterben. 26 то скажи им: «я повергнул пред лицо царя прошение мое, чтобы не возвращать меня в дом Ионафана, чтобы не умереть там». 26 odgovori im: 'Molio sam kralja da me više ne vrati u kuæu Jonatanovu, da ondje ne umrem!'" 26 dices ad eos : Prostravi ego preces meas coram rege, ne me reduci juberet in domum Jonathan, et ibi morerer.
27 The officials did come and question me about my meeting with the king, and I told them exactly what he had ordered me to say. They never spoke to me about the meeting again, since no one had heard us talking.
27 Then came all the princes to Jeremiah, and asked him; and he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. So they left off speaking with him; for the matter was not perceived. 27 Then came all the princes unto Jeremiah, and asked him; and he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. So they left off speaking with him; for the matter was not perceived. 27 Then came all the princes unto Jeremiah, and asked him: and he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. So they left off speaking with him; for the matter was not perceived.
they...: Heb. they were silent from him
27 I doista, doðoše dostojanstvenici k Jeremiji te ga ispitivahu. Ali im on odgovori upravo onako kako mu kralj bijaše naredio.
28 I was held in the courtyard of the palace guards until the day Jerusalem was captured.
28 So Jeremiah abode in the court of the guard until the day that Jerusalem was taken. 28 So Jeremiah abode in the court of the guard until the day that Jerusalem was taken. 28 So Jeremiah abode in the court of the prison until the day that Jerusalem was taken: and he was there when Jerusalem was taken. 28 Jeremiju, dakle, ostaviše u tamnièkom dvorištu sve do dana kad neprijatelj zauze Jeruzalem.
Kad Jeruzalem zauzeše, on bijaše ondje.
