2 Peter 3

2 Peter :Introduction 1 2 3

The Lord Will Return
3
1 My dear friends, this is the second letter I have written to encourage you to do some honest thinking. I don't want you to forget
3 Chapter recording
List of all recordings of KJV
1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
2 what God's prophets said would happen. You must never forget what the holy prophets taught in the past. And you must remember what the apostles told you our Lord and Savior has commanded us to do. 2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
3 But first you must realize that in the last days some people won't think about anything except their own selfish desires. They will make fun of you
3.3 Jd 18.
3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4 and say, “Didn't your Lord promise to come back? Yet the first leaders have already died, and the world hasn't changed a bit.” 4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
5 They will say this because they want to forget that long ago the heavens and the earth were made at God's command. The earth came out of water and was made from water.
3.5 Gn 1.6
5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
standing: Gr. consisting
6 Later it was destroyed by the waters of a mighty flood.
3.6 Gn 7.11
6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
7 But God has commanded the present heavens and earth to remain until the day of judgment. Then they will be set on fire, and ungodly people will be destroyed. 7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
8 Dear friends, don't forget that for the Lord one day is the same as a thousand years, and a thousand years is the same as one day.
3.8 Ps 90.4.
8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9 The Lord isn't slow about keeping his promises, as some people think he is. In fact, God is patient, because he wants everyone to turn from sin and no one to be lost.
9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
10 The day of the Lord's return will surprise us like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a loud noise, and the heat will melt the whole universe.
e 3.10 the whole universe: Probably the sun, moon, and stars, or the elements that everything in the universe is made of.
Then the earth and everything on it will be seen for what they are.
f 3.10 will be seen for what they are: Some manuscripts have “will go up in flames.”
3.10 Mt 24.43; Lk 12.39; 1Th 5.2; Rev 16.15.
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
11 Everything will be destroyed. So you should serve and honor God by the way you live.
11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
12 You should look forward to the day when God judges everyone, and you should try to make it come soon.
g 3.12 and you should try to make it come soon: Or “and you should eagerly desire for that day to come.”
On that day the heavens will be destroyed by fire, and everything else will melt in the heat.
12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
hasting...: or, hasting the coming
13 But God has promised us a new heaven and a new earth, where justice will rule. We are really looking forward to that!
3.13 Is 65.17; 66.22; Rev 21.1.
13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
14 My friends, while you are waiting, you should make certain that the Lord finds you pure, spotless, and living at peace.
14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
15 Don't forget that the Lord is patient because he wants people to be saved. This is also what our dear friend Paul said when he wrote you with the wisdom that God had given him. 15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
16 Paul talks about these same things in all his letters, but part of what he says is hard to understand. Some ignorant and unsteady people even destroy themselves by twisting what he said. They do the same thing with other Scriptures too. 16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
17 My dear friends, you have been warned ahead of time! So don't let the errors of evil people lead you down the wrong path and make you lose your balance.
17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
18 Let the wonderful kindness and the understanding that come from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ help you to keep on growing. Praise Jesus now and forever! Amen.
h 3.18 Amen: Some manuscripts do not have “Amen.”
18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
